Working out is good for me. I know that. But it’s something I have to keep saying to myself on days like this, because I am extremely SORE!
Does that happen to you? It happens to me a lot, especially when I work out with my husband, Spencer. He’s a big, strong dude. So I always find myself upping the ante of my workout – partly to keep up with him and…. Maybe partly to impress him too. Haha
Spencer is very much like me in that he doesn’t really enjoy cardio. So when we hit the gym together, we usually stretch and then head straight for the weights. Tuesday, we had a leg day. What does “Leg Day” involve? Squats, squats and more squats to start off. Then there were also, calf raises, leg curls and… to top it all off… wall squats.
I was hanging in there during the multiple squat sets. I was right at the edge of losing the ability to walk and then we did the wall squats. I literally collapsed to the floor. My legs had had enough!
But, of course, that was just the beginning of my leg woes.
Then there was getting out of bed the next morning… argh! I felt like an old woman! My muscles were screaming from my calves to my glutes. Blah! And then it got WORSE! I’m one of those people who gets sore 2 days after a workout. So, if I’m sore on day 1… I know I’m in trouble.
So when it comes to being sore, the good news is, I’m obviously still challenging myself in the gym. I’m glad about that. And I’m also not so sore that I’m in real pain. I feel like I got a tough workout that I can “FEEL”!
So it looks like some good stretching is in order for today. And I’m letting my legs rest. I don’t want to push so hard at the gym that I injure myself. It’s all about knowing your limits, but still being willing to challenge yourself! I’m feeling good that I’m meeting that challenge!
