I'm so ready for the weather to stay warm. It's Spring, isn't it? Well until then, use those snow storms as a way to burn some extra calories. All you need is a shovel.

In my last blog, I talked about the calories we burn doing housework. Now, I want to focus on just one particular activity that takes you OUTSIDE the house… namely, shoveling snow.

If you’re like me, you were out there the other day shoveling that heavy, wet snow off of your sidewalk. As you know, it can be a back-breaking chore. But it also burns some calories.

It took me about 10 minutes to shovel things clear in front of my house and my neighbor’s house. And according to the Bodybugg 24-Hour Fitness gave me to try out, I burned about 67 calories in those ten minutes! Not too shabby. And if you’re REALLY feeling neighborly, you can keep shoveling… you’ll make your neighbors happy AND burn lots of calories.

Just watch the strain you’re putting on your back. Yes I burned calories, but I also ended up with quite the back ache the next day. Ouch!

Looks like we might all be shoveling snow again with another snow storm… I’ll see you on the sidewalks! Bring your shovel.
