Even if you don't plan to workout on your vacation, you may be surprised at the calories you're burning without even trying!

 

When it’s time to think about your vacation, you may not be scheduling workouts into your itinerary. I know I’m not. For me, it’s about not HAVING a schedule! And I had forgotten about how many calories you can burn without even realizing it… like when you’re on vacation. I just got back from a trip to visit my BFF in Northern Michigan.
 
I’ve never been to Michigan before. But I’ve seen the commercials. Pure Michigan! I’ve also heard the Kid Rock songs… “It was summer-time in Northern Michigan.” And I’ve heard my best friend talk about how awesome it is. So I was excited to see for myself.
 
 
 
We. Did. So. Much. Walking. I really wish I’d had a pedometer!
 
Our first stop of my very first day in the mitten-state… involved something that looked like a mini version of The Incline!
 
 
And then it was off to check-out the shops in Charlevoix. Shopping = walking.
 
We even did a little dancing at the Polish Festival that night!
 
 
And the day after that, we headed even FURTHER north. Oh wait - my friend told me how to say this. “It’s da U.P., eh?” We took the ferry over to Mackinac Island! That place is built for burning calories. It’s an island that does not allow motorized vehicles – bikes and walking only (or a horse can cart you around)! We walked all over that island!
 
 
So, even though I didn’t plan any workouts in my trip, I was definitely still feeling the burn! That’s not to say that I ate well. We don’t really need to go into that. (For crying out loud - there's a fudge shop on every corner!) I’ll just say that I don’t think I did enough walking to counter-act the calories I ATE! So I definitely have some work to do now that I’m back to my normal routine.
 
But it’s good to look back at my Michigan vacay and give myself a little credit. I wasn’t a TOTAL slug. And now it’s about getting back into my normal workouts and getting back to what I know I should be doing. And that's my plan - right after I catch up on my sleep!
