Fort Carson Fit - (Stacia Naquin)

They’re, literally, the fittest soldiers on Fort Carson. I got the scoop on how they stay that way all year long!

We all know soldiers are required to be fit for their job. But, just recently, Fort Carson decided to see who was the fittest of them ALL! That happened in the VO2 Max Competition at the Iron Horse Sports & Fitness Center.

Soldiers competed by measuring their maximal oxygen consumption rate with the Fitmate Pro. It gives a detailed reading of your fat/muscle ratios.

After tabulating the results, the competition determined the most fit male and female soldiers on Fort Carson. Here’s how they stay Fort Carson fit!

Capt. Mike Meyers, HHC, 3rd STB, 3rd BCT

Capt. Tracy Wrinkle, 7215th Medical Support Unit (Army Reserves)

Stacia: Everyone knows PT is part of being a soldier, but why is fitness important to you?

Capt. Meyers: Fitness is the no. 1 perception. When someone walks in, it is the first thing they see. I need to be able to do all the things I ask of my Soldiers.

Capt. Wrinkle: Fitness is a way of life. Lead from the front.

Stacia: If you had to give one piece of fitness advice to people out there - soldier or not - what would it be?

Capt. Meyers: Know your limits. Are they physical or mental? It they are mental, learn to overcome them.

Capt. Wrinkle: Make it part of your lifestyle.

Stacia: What's your next fitness goal?

Capt. Meyers: Next goal is the World's Toughest Mudder.

Capt. Wrinkle: Bataan Memorial Death March and the Army Ten-Miler.

With all they've accomplished in their fitness so far, I have no doubt they'll meet those goals and then some!

A big thanks to Fort Carson PAO for help with this blog and Cpl. William Smith, 4th Inf. Div. PAO for all of the photos!
