Roof Replacement and Your Insurance Company

There are many factors that a homeowner should consider when deciding to have their roof replaced. A few of these factors would be the type of roof covering best suited for the application, appearance or curb appeal, resistance of the new roof to wind and or hail damage, durability, warranties, both on the materials and workmanship, and of course then there are the many concerns associated with choosing the right contractor.

Another consideration is in regard to insurance claims and often we are asked:
“Won’t the insurance company cancel my policy or raise my rates if I file a claim?”
In short, no, the insurance company cannot cancel your policy from a claim due to natural disasters. It is common for the rates to be raised however, but not from an individual claim. Because we live in a wind and hail prone area, insurance rates often increase globally due the extensive amount of damage. In other words, it is best to file a claim when you do have damage as your rates could be subject to increase regardless of whether you file a claim or not.
We have some very useful information on our website to help you make some of the above decisions including a very handy “Roofer Hiring Guide” which is absolutely free for you to download.
