KKTV had a great night when at an awards ceremony.

I couldn't be more proud of the people I work with and the people I work for.

Every year the Colorado Broadcaster Association, or CBA presents awards for outstanding work by broadcasters across the state.  It's divided into Denver and non-Denver stations so we're basically up against our usual Southern Colorado competition. The station that is awarded the most first or second place honors in all the categories is named "Station of the Year"

This year, that''s KKTV 11 News. Here's most of the group.

Our creative services department was on fire. Our team  took first place in Public Service Announcement for "The Brainy Bunch"

It was first AND second place in Community Service Project for "11 News Toy Drive" (a favorite project of mine) and "11 For Kids Day"

Another sweep, first and second in Best Promotional Campaign for "Holiday Tips" (remember those?) and "School Closings"  Below: Steve, Paul, Brian and Cyndi from Creative Services.

In Best Single Spot, another double win- first place for "Watch What Happens" and second for "Storm Headquarters"  Below: Lisa, Cyndi and Steve from Creative Services.  Thanks to Cyndi for the pictures!

They also took first in Best Graphics/Animation for "11 Weather & Storm HQ"

Those of us in the News/Sports Department had great results too.  Here's Jesse Kurtz in a not-so-serious moment.

Best Single Sports Program, a double win, first and second for "Broncos Season In Review" and "Friday Night Endzone"

Best News Feature went to Jesse Kurtz for an emotional piece about a high school baseball player who was called "Trojans Inspiration."

In Hard News/In-Depth Coverage, Lauri Martin got first for "Soldier's Honor Questioned"  and Betty Sexton came in second for "Dog Trainer Scam"  Betty also picked up a second place in Best Specialty Reporter for her consumer reporting and Call For Action. Here's Betty with Executive Producer mark Lammers. That's KKTV General manager Tim Merritt walking behind them.

We got a second place award in Breaking News for "Wildfire" - you can't win them all, we'll get this one next year.

Second for Best Newscast....see above.

Best Weathercaster honors went to our own Brian Bledsoe.  He was also named the "Broadcast Citizen of the Year" for the amazing amount of time and effort he puts into the 11 Weather Class at schools all over Southern Colorado. If your child has ever been in one of those sessions you know why the kids love it..and therefore why Brian does it. A Big Congrats to the Chief Met.!

The Best, but you already knew that!

Finally, Shannon Brinias and I were honored to be named Best News Anchor Team.  I'm proud of that. I wasn't able to go to the ceremony because of another important commitment ( I know, sounds lame) here we are at from that award-winning Toy Drive.

This may all seem a little like bragging I suppose, so sorry for that, but I'm very proud of what we do here and very pleased for the team that gets it all done here.  I couldn't be more proud of everyone who was a part of this...and everyone at KKTV was a part of this!  Here's Mark with the Station Of The Year Trophy.

We have now been named Station Of The Year for two years in a row.  I promise you we're working every day to make it three!

We'll talk again soon.
