HOLD THE PHONE
Back in the middle of December I wrote about a TV show with an often repeated quirky word choice.
"The Good Wife" is a great show, one of my favorites on CBS. I wrote back then that I had noticed almost every character making a particular word choice almost every time! Over and over again they say the word "phone" when many of us would use the word "call". "I'll call you, she called me, they're waiting for me to call. On "The Good Wife" they all say "phone", almost never "call".
It's not wrong, I just thought it was a little odd that so many characters would all make the same choice time after time. It seems I'm not the only one.
I've been getting comments on that blog from other fans of "The Good Wife" with the same question. Some are apparently wondering about the whole "phone" thing, trying to get an answer through google and finding nothing more informative than my original blog entry! That's got to be frustrating.
Just today someone named Robin in New Jersey commented:
" I have to say i finally googled this because after that first episode it was SO obvious and now they are still doing it, although not quite as often. it is getting to the point that i cannot help but notice and i almost want to turn it off! i love this show and yes, it is a perfectly legitimate, but it's downright annoying at this point. i know, it is NOT something that is a 'show killer' but it's so annoying i am about to stop watching."
From Angie in L.A.:
Former Chicagoan here, and we don't say "phone" instead of "call" - lordly, I love this show but that was so annoying!"
Jennifer in California sent this comment:
"I agree that my initial impression (and what I still believe to be true) is that the use of the word "phone" must be some sort of inside joke amongst the writers or crew. I think it's hilarious and would love to hear if that's true or not."
I wondered the same things in the initial blog entry back in December. Here's a link to that one so yuo can read it and all the comments.
I stil haven't heard from anyone connected to the show and I don't expect to, and that's OK.. they're busy making a great TV show.
The new episode of "The Good Wife" is airing as I write this. I've got the DVR rolling so I can watch it as soon as I go home from doing the news. I can stil watch it , and enjoy it, without counting the "phones"
We'll talk again soon.
