A CORONADO CAR WASH SHOULD BE COOL - AND NOT COLD!
My good friend Richard Kusk told me about an event this weekend for a good cause. I like that. It's a bit of a gamble...and it paid off..I like that too.
Richard is a long-time music teacher in District 11. In fact he was my Band Director at Doherty High School way back in the early 80's. I used to call him Mr. Kusk back then! Now he's the orchestra director at Coronado. The kids need to raise some money for a trip to California and they're doing it with a car wash.
Here's the cool part. They'll wash your car for free...no strings attached (orchestra - strings, get it?) The kids all got pledges based on the number of cars washed...so not only is it free, they really need cars to wash!
Here's the cool part...which could have been the cold part. On the corresponding day last year..the 2nd Saturday in October, it was a day of car crashes, not car washes.
There was a coat of ice on everything. We had freezing rain and snow that turned everything really nasty really quickly and it lasted for two or three days! It was awful!
So it's a gutsy Colorado call to schedule a weather-dependent event like a car wash on the 2nd Saturday in October. I talked to Richard and he said it was the only time they could do it because of other events. He also said he just kind of figured it'd be ok.
Good call Mr. Kusk! Good luck Coronado kids! Good chance to get a free car wash....on a nice, sunny day.
They'll be at the K-Mart parking lot on Nevada near Fillmore on Saturday from 10am to about 4pm.
You could help send the kids to California. I think my friend Richard gets to go too. It probably won't snow there either.
We'll talk again soon.
