TERRIBLE GAME...BUT STILL A GOOD DAY
The Raiders destroyed the Broncos and I was there. Here's why I'm glad I was.
I've never seen such a terrible football game. I've never seen a team all but out of it after 2 minutes of the first quarter, but I have seen a lot of football games.
I was with a couple of people who have seen very few. My nephew Ryan is 9. This was his first NFL game. My friend James has a son named Ben who turned 7 on Sunday. This was his 3rd NFL game. That's Ryan on the left then Ben and James. Ryan is a huge hockey fan just getting to know football.
The game itself was a disaster..it was (insert adjective of your choice here). But for the kids it was an experience. To see them wide-eyed at the very sight of 76,000 football fans was terrific. Even the horrible game couldn't ruin that. (They were also wide-eyed at some...let's just say..colorful language tossed around by fans on both sides.) They're both in their football formative years, not too heavily emotionally invested in the team yet, so the absolute dismantling of the Broncos by the hated Raiders won't scar them for life! At one point Ben had to rest for a couple of minutes. At another point his dad summed things up.
The kids had fun. It's one of those things they'll never forget...remember going to big-time sporting events as a young child? The adults will never forget it either. We'll remember it as the worst game we've ever seen!
James has season tickets, way up near he top of the stadium, even though he lives out-of-state. He'll come to town for games a few times a year. When I go along I'll take one nephew or another for a great sports experience.
The up side is that the game itself can never be that bad again!.....right?
We'll talk again soon.
