I left London for a day to go to the Midlands where I lived for a few years as a child. My friends the Locke family put me up every year I come to England and I return the favor when they come to the U.S.
The small village where my family lived for a few years when I was a child is called Thorpe Mandeville. Its history goes back to the Doomsday Book and the population has held steady at just over 200 people for several centuries. There is a 13th century church in the village, but no shops or stores. The only business is the village pub! It's called The Three Conies. Conies, by the way, are rabbits. I didn't go to The Conies much when we lived here, we left when I was 12. Now when I go back I do try to stop in, just as other travelers have been doing since the first part of the Three Conies was built. That was in 1622!
