AN EMMY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS?
Superstition pays off. I didn't go to the Emmy's..I did get the Emmy.
I wrote in this blog a few weeks ago that I had been nominated for an Emmy Award - for this blog - at least for the on-air version of it. Every once in a while when I write something here that seems like it would fit the title of commentary, I'll read it on TV. It only happens every once in a while. I put three of those on-air presentations together as a composite, or a best-of "The Written Ward" kind of thing and had it entered in the regional Emmy Awards. I didn't really expect much. I thought they were pretty good, but I wrote them..so what else would I think?
I did expect to skip the ceremony. It's always fun, and its nice to see former co-workers from Denver and elsewhere. The problem is that over the last 15 years I've entered my work for Emmy consideration many times. I've been nominated for maybe 15 of them..and I've only ever won twice. I've never won when I've actually rented the tux, paid for the dinner and gone to the ceremony. Also, it was on a Sunday night, which is a work night for me..so I was on the air, not at a fancy awards dinner...and that's ok because it worked!
I actually forgot that the ceremony was this weekend. I got home last night and a former KKTV producer who now works in Denver let me know I'd won. It was a great way to end my day...thanks Keeley! The category was Commentator/Editorialist. I've never really set out to do that, it's just that some of what I write here fits into that broad area.
The other Emmy's I have won were for reporting work I did when I was in Cincinnati. At those events someone from my station was there to pick up the trophies and get them to me. This time that didn't happen. Those other two Emmy's are sitting in a cabinet in my study at home. Here they are.
I'm very proud of them. I'll be very proud of this new one too...once I figure out how to get it!
Thanks to all of you who read the entries in "The Written Ward" . As long as someone keeps reading them, I'll keep writing them...and maybe I'm not the only one who thinks they're pretty good!
We'll talk again soon.
