Saw McCartney With Lennon (Don Ward)

No..not that one..but there is a connection.

ROCK SHOW!  WHAT A SHOW

For just under three hours one man owned an audience and held the packed Pepsi Center in the palm of his hand. From a "Venus and Mars-into-Rock Show-into-Jet" opening number, right through to "The End" at the end - it was spectacular. Every song he sang, every note he played, every story he told from his 50 years in the music world had us all mesmerized.  We all wanted more!

Paul McCartney, at 68, still has enough on-stage energy and enthusiasm to keep the crowd happy for another three hours. He has enough great music to play 10 times that!  Bottom line, this concert was one of the best I've ever seen.  Here he is at the piano during a quieter moment, for "Let it Be" and "The Long and Winding Road"

Everyone who likes music should see Paul McCartney live.  My brother-in-law Greg had always wanted to. He finally got his chance at this show.  Here's the twist (and shout).  Greg's last name in Lennon.   Ok..I hear ya', "big deal"... Good point . If your last name happens to be Jagger or Richards that doesn't mean you automatically have some special connection to the Rolling Stones.  But there is a connection for Greg...(to the Beatles, not the Stones)

Greg's father's Grandfather, and John Lennon's Grandfather were brothers.  That's according to family history passed down for these past few generations. Apparently part of the Lennon clan stayed in Liverpool all those years ago, and some of them crossed the Atlantic to Canada.  Greg was born and raised near Toronto, spent his whole life there until he and my sister moved to Colorado 7 or 8 years ago. Greg loves music, especially the Beatles..because it's great music, and because he has that family connection..even a distant one.  All three of his kids have some true musical ability at a young age.  Some of that comes from their classically-trained-singer of a mother.  We all hope some of it also comes from that long Lennon line back to Liverpool. Who knows what these little Lennons might do some day...just imagine.

Here's THE McCartney with that other Lennon from last Thursday's show.

Greg would really like to have taken the kids, already raised as Beatles fans...but if I told you what we paid for the tickets you'd understand why he didn't!  Maybe next time.  One final twist....Greg's mother's maiden name....is Harrison.  No connection to George though..as far as they know!

We'll talk again soon.
