A PERFECT PLACE TO HONOR THE FALLEN
There's a spot in Colorado Springs that honors the fallen in a war that still goes on. If you haven't yet, stop by the Freedom Memorial at Memorial Park.
It was built with funds raised by the Rotary Club and dedicated in 2005. It is a peaceful place to remember the men and women who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan...more than 300 of them from Fort Carson alone. The impact of this war is really felt in our community with our strong ties to the military. The memorial includes this profound quote from Abraham Lincoln.
On memorial day itself Shannon Brinias and I anchored 11 News at 5:30 live from the Freedom Memorial. We also had a chance to meet retired Air Force Colonel Jim Rix, who was there to represent the Rotarians who made this all happen.
We are a nation at war, and we are a community closely tied to that war. Because we need to remember all of those who have given so much for us, and because we have this memorial right here in our city....in a way, every day is Memorial Day. It just takes a moment to honor all of those who've done so much for all of us, and this is a perfect place to remember the fallen.
Thanks to them.
We'll talk again soon.
