MY HOME IS NO LONGER HIS HOME
For Several weeks I noticed the stuffing disappearing from the slightly-stuffed chairs on my back deck. A couple of weeks ago I discovered a rascally rodent helping himself to the furniture innards, presumably to use it to build a nest somewhere. I think I was wrong. Here's the original blog entry.
I now think the tree-rat is really a chair-rat. I think he was burrowing down into the chair back stuffing, not to steal it, but to live in it...right there in my chair! He was settled in stuffing so comfortably that the chair itself had to be his home.
This is how I often spotted the stuffing-loving squirrel.
Since his home was way too close to my home I had to get rid of those cushions. I got new ones a few days ago.
They do still have stuffing but they have a tough covering and an extra part that loops over the chair back. I hope that will render them squirrel safe, tree-rat tamper proof, or at least rodent resistant. I haven't seen the squirrel since I got the new cushions. I wish him well. Maybe he's burrowing his way into someone else's back yard furniture. Better theirs than mine.
We'll talk again soon.
