Big night last night to raise big money.

ONE STEP IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HEART ATTACK AND STROKES

The 27th Heart Ball was held last night at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort.  Hundreds of diners dressed up for the glamorous event.

Shannon Brinias and I were the emcees for the evening. The above shot is from the big screen.  Our duties included describing the amazing live auction items before Joel the auctioneer did his best to drive up the bids.  One of the items was a week's stay in a 14 bedroom, 9 bathroom villa in the French Alps.  How much fun would that be?  It went for several thousand dollars.

Here's a funny behind-the-scenes story.  I really should be more organized for a night like this.  Before the evening got started, while I was getting ready..I realized I had no idea where my cuff links were.  I spent half an hour looking everywhere they could possibly be.  Shannon was picking me up in a cab in a few minutes and I had no solution to the problem.  Some tuxedo shirts have standard buttons that you can use instead of cuff links. Mine does not, so the cuffs were just falling wide open.  It wouldn't really be a big deal if I wasn't going to stand and talk in front of 400 or 500 people..about half of whom would be men, all with the proper cuff links!

I started making calls...brother-in-law who lives nearby...no cuff links.  I called Shannon who got on the phone to a store that would be on the way...cheapest cuff links, 55 dollars...which I really didn't want to spend since I know I HAVE a pair somewhere. I was resigned to having to spend the money when my neighbor Ralph rang the doorbell.  He was one of my calls, and he knew he had some but he had no idea where!  His wife Kelly found a pair and he ran them over to me and all was well.  That's a good neighbor!  I got them just as Shannon and the cab arrived.  Next time I go to something "black tie" I'll start getting ready a little earlier!

In this photo is the group from the KKTV table.  Seated on the left is Brian Bledsoe with his wife Dale behind him.  Next to Brian is KKTV General Manager Tim Merritt with his wife Jill sitting next to him.  Standing on the far right is KKTV News Director Liz Haltiwanger.  Her husband Seth is seated in front of her.

Here's a nice picture of me and Shannon at the table before we had to go to the podium.

On stage again.....now Shannon Brinias always looks good, but here she is, stunning in white.

Me in basic black...it's so easy being a guy!  Can't even see the cuff links. They're something no one ever notices...unless you DON'T have them.

The evening raised tens of thousands for the American Heart Association. Thanks to everyone who was there and to the A.H.A for asking KKTV 11 News to be part of it. Plus, one more special thanks to Ralph and Kelly....for the missing link (s).

We'll talk again soon.
