The 27th Annual Heart Ball Is Saturday Night
I'll be there.
My co-anchor Shannon Brinias and I are the Emcees again for the fancy dinner/auction/dance event at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort. This will be our 5th Heart Ball.
The American Heart Association hosts events like this one to raise money which funds research and treatment to help millions with heart problems.
I have a very good friend from college. I've known him for more than 25 years. In his late 30's he was diagnosed with heart failure. In that situation he tells me with medication and diet changes one of three things can happen. Often your heart function gets worse anyway and things go downhill. If you're lucky things stay about the same. If you're very lucky your heart function actually gets better. He's in category three, his condition is improving. It's because doctors know what to do to help him and he knows what to do to help himself. Those of us to whom he is important, and there are a lot of us, don't want to lose him. Now it looks like he has every chance at a typical life expectancy.
Part of that is because groups like the AHA raise money at events like the Heart Ball. Shannon and I met with two of the Heart Ball organizers today. There are still a few tickets left, here's the link for all you need to know about it. Please go if you can.
Saturday night there will be great food, plenty to drink, gowns and tuxedos, great silent auction items, amazing live auction items and plenty of music and dancing. All of that is perfect, but that's not why I'm going.
I'll be thinking about my friend and others like him who need help and who are getting it, and for that reason....
I'll be there.
We'll talk again soon.
