An old classic gets a new treatment for Super Bowl Sunday. This will rock you.

A REWORKED ROCK YOU

Two months ago I wrote a blog entry about the classic Queen song "We Will Rock You" being named the most-played song at U.S sporting events. Now it will be played at the ultimate U.S. sporting event ..and it's never sounded quite like this.

"We Will Rock You" -2010 will debut right here on KKTV during the CBS coverage of Super Bowl 44.  Here's what's happening. There's a music group called E.S. Posthumus.  It's two brothers who apply mathematical concepts (Pythagorean philosophy) to creating music.  They created a piece called "Posthumus Zone" which is the CBS NFL theme music.  You'll know it when you hear it.  Listen to it here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTNzs-VmAWk. They also did the theme to the CBS show "Cold Case".

They've created a new mash-up version, sort of a hybrid mixed recording of their NFL theme and the original Queen version of "We Will Rock You. "  According to news releases, this piece will be sort of like some of the TV commercials which air that day...it will only be used on Sunday, February 7th.  It will apparently debut as a two-and-a-half minute "video teaser" during the pre-game coverage.  It's the type of music that lends itself so well to visuals that I'm just guessing it will be the music bed on a video montage about the two teams and their journey to the ultimate showdown...or something like that.  It will also be used in shorter bumps in and out of commercial breaks throughout the day.

This isn't just a matter of remixing the original music.  Queen guitarist Brian May wrote "We Will Rock You" 33 years ago. Now he's talking on his website about the fact that he has added some brand new guitar work to the old classic for this Super Bowl project.

He also calls this the best version of the song he's heard since the original.  This is not a man who tosses compliments around casually. We'll all see what he means, hear what he means on Sunday.

Oh yeah, the game should be great too!  Saints or Colts..who's going to Rock whom?

We'll talk again soon.
