A FRIEND LANDS A NEW GIG, AND TELLS ME ABOUT IT....EARLY.
I'm in the news business. I never know when something important may happen and I may be needed for some sort of breaking news coverage. For that reason my cell phone is always on. I have a home phone too, but you know people, they sometimes don't think about which number to call in a crisis...they just call one. Most folks turn their phones off overnight so you can safely call or text at a weird hour and they'll get the message when they get up and turn on the phone. I'm not one of those people.
Longtime Colorado radio personality George McFly just started a new job. He's the 5-9 morning guy at Magic 98.9.
I'm happy for George. He's a friend, a great radio guy and he deserves a good full-time gig. I'm not happy with the way George told me his good news! He sent me a text...on his way to work....at 4:21 in the morning!
That awful alert sound that I've never changed went off to tell me I had a text message, and at that time of day it scared me a little. At that hour it's either big news (work-related) or bad news...something terrible to do with family or friends. In this case though it was good news...George was back on his feet, back on the air full time, but George, buddy, please, no more text messages at 4:21 in the morning ..or 4:22, or 4...you get the idea.
I tell my family and friends no calls before about 8:30 unless it's an emergency..after all I don't get home from work until 11 or so..I rarely get to bed before 1...and I clearly need as much beauty sleep as I can get.
So George, congratulations on the job..I'll talk to you soon....after 8:30.
We'll talk again soon.
