A Can't-Miss Colorado Springs Christmas Weekend

Here's a great way to spend a weekend with the family and get into the holiday spirit.

Day One, Event 1, Saturday, Downtown Colorado Springs, 5:50 PM

The Festival of Lights Parade

This is the 25th annual edition of this colorful Southern Colorado tradition.  I've been looking through the entries for this year's parade, getting to know who's in it.  My 11 News co-anchor Shanon Brinias and I will once again host our live 11 News coverage of the parade.  We'll be on at 6pm on My KKTV and streaming on kktv.com.  There are nearly 80 entries listed for the parade this time around, and that's pretty good number.  Marching bands, non-marching bands, floats, clowns, elves, boy scouts and girl scouts the 11 News satellite truck and Santa (in no particular order!) and many more entries are all part of the line-up.  They'll all march their way south on Tejon, from St. Vrain to Vermijo, and the best way to see it is to be there!  Parade planners say the parking garages are the best place to leave the car.  Get there early to get a street-side spot.

Day One, Event 2, Saturday, Pikes Peak Center, 7:30 pm

Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Concert

Parade ends at about 7:00, so you've got time to walk right over from the parade to the Pikes Peak Center and settle in for a festive evening of entertainment.  It's called Silver Screen Holiday..and the show includes music from "Phantom of the Opera" "Star Wars" and plenty of seasonal songs too. More than 300 talented kids hit the stage at 7:30. The Colorado Springs Youth Symphony includes several different ensembles, all made up of young musicians who had to audition to be part of the group.  I've heard them, these kids are good!  You can still get tickets by calling 520-SHOW.  I talked to an operator there, and there aren't too many tickets left.  The ones they have are $19.00. So call quickly to make sure you can go...you'll be glad you did!

Day 2, Event 3, Sunday, Pikes Peak Center, 3:00pm

Colorado Springs Children's Chorale Concert

Back to the Pikes Peak Center on Sunday afternoon for more talented kids in concert.  This show is called, 'Tis The Season- Making Spirits Bright - and I can assure you it will make spirits bright. The Chorale kids are well versed and well rehearsed in traditional classical pieces and for this show they get much more modern too.  They've got kids as young a 7 and as old as 18 so there's a wide range of music from the different performance groups within the chorale.  My younger sister happens to be the acting coach/choreographer for the chorale, so she's told me a little bit about it...I'm looking forward to it.  I've had various nephews and a niece in teh chorale over the years, so I've been to this concert several years in a row (it's completely different every year) and I can tell you that it's a wonderful couple of hours.  It's good.  And it's not good as in "oh aren't all those kids cute...".  It's good because the kids are good, very good, period.  The people at 520-SHOW told me there are still quite a few seats still left for this one, $14.50 to $22.00.  It's worth every penny to see dedicated children perform with such skill.  You can probably get tickets at the door, but I'd call ahead to be safe.

So there you go...I'll be at all three, maybe I'll see some you there.  Have Fun.

We'll talk again soon.
