Christmas Music

It's here, it's time for the tunes we hear every year. Which ones do we hear most?

There are some wonderful songs we hear for about one month a year.  Our friends at K-Lite 106.3 switched to Christmas music earlier this week.  Whether you listen there or on satellite there are certain song we always hear.  Most of them are great, a few are horrible.  I have always really liked the Andy Williams version of "Oh Holy Night" as a top traditional song.  It's an incredible performance of a great melody.

I never again need to hear the George Micheal "last Christmas I gave you my heart" thing again.  If it was a non-Christmas song it would never get any play, but because it has the word Christmas in it, it gets into the regular holiday rotation at radio outlets everywhere....bah humbug.

What are your favorites?  Comment with your answers please.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers or ASCAP just released a list of the most popular Christmas songs of the last decade. ASCAP ranks them by most performed, or the songs that get the most airplay. They also include the most popular artist version played on the radio today. When it comes to holiday tunes, clearly tradition wins out for song choice, though some more modern artists get the nod for their versions of the songs.

Below are the 11 most popular (after all, we're 11 News) with the artist whose version put it on the most played list, at least according to ASCAP.

1) Winter Wonderland - Eurythmics

2) The Christmas Song ( Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) - Nat "King" Cole

3) Sleigh Ride - The Ronettes

4) Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - The Pretenders

5) Santa Clause Is Coming To Town - Bruce Springteen

6) White Christmas - Bing Crosby

7) Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! - Michael Buble

8) Jingle Bell Rock - Hall & Oates

9) Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer - Gene Autrey

10) Little Drummer Boy - Harry Simeone Chorale & Orchestra

11) It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year - Andy Williams

We'll talk again soon.
