AN AMUSING STORY
A few blogs back I talked about a couple of new albums that came out on the same day....one by Muse, the other by Alice In Chains, both bands are favorites of mine.
I still haven't listened much to the 'Chains..it sounds ok. I'm really liking the new Muse though. Here's something strange that happened. In my car I have a cd player, normal radio and satellite radio. I tend to switch around a lot from one to the other. For a few days last week I had Muse, "The Resistance" in the cd player and I just left it on any time I was in the car. When you're playing a cd the satellite radio is still powered up and its display still shows what's playing on it, even if you're not listening. There are 5 or 6 satellite stations I switch between, one of them is alternative music.
Twice in just a 12 hour period, while I was listening to the Muse cd I glanced down at the satellite radio display and noticed that the station I had left it on was playing Muse. It wasn't just Muse, it was the exact same song I was hearing on the cd at that very moment.. Once it was "Uprising" the next time it was "Undisclosed Desires."
To me that's really strange. I had to have left the sat-radio on the alternative station, and they had to play a Muse song exactly as I was listening to on on the cd, AND I HAD TO NOTICE! I think it's weird.
Also, after that last blog, when I mentioned I bought the cd's my brother-in-law Greg's response was, "who buys cd's any more?. No one who's interested in Alice in Chains and Muse. Everyone who reads that blog is going to think you're old!"
He may be right. i guess I am old, or at least old-fashioned....no I don't wish it was still vinyl, but when I buy music I like to have the cd in hand. I like to take the ten minutes required to actually unwrap it, then be able to look at the packaging as I put the disc in the player for the first time...is that so wrong! I can always load it onto a computer and stick it on my i-pod later. I just like to have something tangible for my music money. How about you?..still buy cd's or just download.
By the way, Greg likes Muse, not so big on Alice In Chains...and now downloads music when he buys it. He's also a few years younger than me.
We'll talk again soon.
