Great Job Jesse

The Broncos weren't always impressive on Friday Night. Something else was impressive, just off the field.

Maybe The Broncos Didn't Have A Great Game, But Jesse Did.

The Broncos pre-season debut was Friday night in San Francisco. You saw the game right here on KKTV.  Here's how that works. You know that we are your Broncos station for Southern Colorado.  CBS carries most of their games, therefore we do, too.  KCNC is the Broncos Station, the CBS affiliate for Denver and the northern part of Colorado.  They obtained the rights to broadcast the pre-season game, we became part of that deal for Southern Colorado.

KCNC has a great sports department.  Under the leadership of long-time Sports Director John Owens, so do we.  KCNC needed one more on-air personality to cover sideline reporting duties.  They contacted our own Jesse Kurtz to do the job.  Jesse has won a lot of state-wide, and regional awards for his work over the last few years.  A lot of TV people in Denver are well aware of who he is, and they knew he could handle the assignment.

Boy did he handle it.  The first time the play-by-play crew tossed to Jesse for a sideline report, he talked abut how Josh McDaniels seemed calm, cool and collected on his head coaching debut.  I'll tell you who was calm, cool and collected - Jesse Kurtz.  He's got that voice that just speaks sports.  He knows what he's talking about and he's never overblown or patronizing in his delivery.  He just delivers, every time.

A lot of things can go wrong for a sideline reporter.  The big fear is losing the audio feed, and not knowing what the main presenters in the booth are saying,  The reporter's comments have to compliment what's just been said...Jesse did it all.  When there was an injury, he was on it, when Kyle Orton was going over strategies on the sideline with offensive team mates, Jesse had the insight into the significance of that.  Crowd noise can be a problem.  So can worrying too much about your own role, and your next live update, so that you lose track of what's happening in the game.  If any of those things went wrong for Jesse, we never knew it by watching!

We've all seen and been annoyed by sideline reporters who lose their way, don't seem to be watching the same game, or tell us things that anyone who knows anything about the sport already realized.  None of that happened with our man J.K.  It's not an easy job, it just seems that way when we watch Jesse do it.

All of us in Southern Colorado know that Jesse is as good as it gets.  Now a lot of others all across Colorado know it too.  If you didn't see the game, don't worry there are more, tune in and check it out.  It's always fun to watch the preseason Broncos, and to imagine what the real season might be like.  It's more fun now that Jesse is keeping us all up to date from the sidelines.

Congrats, Jesse on a job well done!  Can't wait to watch you next time.

We'll talk again soon.

Don
