If the initial blog didn't do so, I want to make it clear that I like Susan Boyle and her story. I'm sorry to hear she's not feeling well and I hope she recovers soon enough to make some of the global fame work for her, if and however she chooses to do so.
To Mary Pat in Los Angeles: I watched her initial appearance again. You're right, for someone with no training she is a great singer, and that is a great performance. I hope she has many more. It was just impossible to duplicate the impact of that performance again. The expectations were too high, the was pressure too strong.
And to her fellow Scot, Moira in Colorado Springs, I hope your idea happens. Maybe the Royal Variety Performance will have a few minutes for her to Dream A Dream one more time, in front of the Queen.
Does anyone remember the clip of The Beatles at the Royal Variety Performance? I looked up the quote from John Lennon, from 1963.
"Will the people in the cheaper seats clap your hands? And the rest of you, if you'll just rattle your jewelry."
I don't think those four had much formal training either, and things worked out for them.
We'll talk again soon.
