HAD A CHANCE TO MEET A LOT OF PEOPLE
The Colorado State Fair is now in full swing in Pueblo. A lot of KKTV staffers were there on the first Saturday.
95 degrees and full sunshine. That sounds about right for August in Pueblo. The 11 News "Beat The Heat" booth was a popular spot. We had a big fan there (one of those water-driven super-cool things) to help fair-goers cool down a little. The other cool thing we had was the prize wheel.
We gave away hundreds of KKTV backpacks and KKTV reusable grocery bags and hand fans and pens and lots of free subscriptions to 11 Storm Call. I happen to think that final prize ( normally $10.00) was the best one on the wheel. It's not exactly "Wheel Of Fortune" but we had some good little giveaways.
Lots of kids and parents and grandparents stopped by to take a spin and pick up a prize and it was nice to see everyone. Brian and Branden were there too in front of the giant weather wall to take pictures with kids (and former kids). This is Branden below, with his bad thumb (softball injury)
At one point Colorado Attorney General John Suthers stopped by the booth. I've know John for nearly 20 years, since I was a reporter at a different station in Colorado Springs, and he was the District Attorney for El Paso and Teller Counties. Our families go back even farther than that. John is a Notre Dame graduate, as is my older sister Cindy, so they knew each other from various Colorado Springs Notre Dame Club events before I ever met him. It's always nice to see him!
So thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hi. I spent all my time at our booth and didn't explore the fair too much. It's looked like everyone was having a good time so check it out!
This was our one day at the fair with the prize wheel this year, but we'll do it again next time! Hope you all enjoy the rest of this great Colorado event!
We'll talk again soon.
