450 million chicken wings, 13.2 million pounds of avocados and 30 million pounds of potato chips, tortilla chips, pretzels, popcorn and nuts. All of it consumed by Americans in just one day… Super Bowl Sunday. Now try to avoid it all to stick to your New Year’s Resolution of eating healthy! Seems a little impossible, doesn't it?

I talked with Steve Saunders this week. He’s the strength and conditioning trainer to some of the NFL’s most elite players, including Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick. He knows a little something about leading a healthy lifestyle, while still appreciating the biggest football game of the year.

His advice? “Treat it like Thanksgiving,” said Steve. “Just eat it all.”

He says we should enjoy our favorite football foods on Super Bowl Sunday. All of them! It’s part of the fun of the game. But, just like Thanksgiving… it should really just be that one day. You can’t eat like that every day!

So there’s a part two to Steve’s advice. He says we have to get back on track on Monday. And that can be especially tough this time of year, especially if we’re already having a tough time keeping our resolutions.

“This week is like the perfect storm for people,” says Steve. “The month of January is ending, they’re starting to wane a little bit and here comes this monster Super Bowl Sunday. There’s a lot that can go wrong.”

That’s why he says it’s not about what you eat that day. It’s about re-focusing for Monday.

And what about our time in the gym? I asked Steve about the ONE thing he recommends we do when we get back to it on Monday. He says it’s all about one word.

“Sweat,” he said. “At my facilities, we like to say – nobody’s ever drowned in sweat.”

So there it is… your one-word goal for the day after Super Bowl Sunday. Sweat.
