Finally, an answer to the phone vs call question...sort of.

THE GOOD WIFE QUESTION ANSWERED..MORE "CALLS" TO COME!

Back on December 15th I wrote a blog about the popular CBS drama "The Good Wife".  I wondered why so many characters so often chose to use the word "phone" instead of "call" as a verb when describing their communications situations. I was much more curious than critical, though I did mention that for such well-written characters the constant unusual word choice didn't quite ring true.  Here's the original piece.

Then I started getting comments from all over the country from other "Good Wife" watchers who wondered the same thing.  Some were downright annoyed and said it almost made them not want to watch...almost...the show is too good to dismiss over a wrinkle in the writing.

A day or two ago after this follow up blog entry http://www.kktv.com/blogs/blogwithdon/GoodWife2_115616964.html

I got a link as a comment from Ilene in New York City. I checked out her link and it turns out the issue was addressed by the national media about 6 weeks after I asked about it!

What follows is from TVGuide.com as quoted by SeattlePI.com on January 27th.

According to veteran screenwriter Lawrence Meyers (Crossing Jordan, Picket Fences), author of the new book Inside the TV Writer's Room: Practical Advice for Succeeding in Television, "It often has to do with where showrunners are from or how they spoke when they were raised." That seems to be the case with The Good Wife exec producer Robert King. "I usually say 'phone,' so it probably started with me," he says. "But I've been hearing that people are noticing it [on the show]. We might have some fun with it in an upcoming episode where the judge is obsessed with the word and keeps saying, 'Was it "phone" or "call?"'"

So there you go. The people who make "The Good Wife" are indeed aware (now) that the people who watch "The Good Wife" are wondering about the phone/call conundrum. Thanks for the link Ilene in NYC!

Let's all look out for the "judge wants to know" episode.

We'll talk again soon.
