One of my oldest friends is an actor, and he recently invited me to the premiere of his upcoming movie, Inception. Being his date is also known in “the biz” as being a “Plus One." In other words, he gets his name on the list with a +1 after it. Even though I worked in the entertainment industry for a long time, this will be my first movie premiere, and my first time as a Plus One.
There are a lot of unknowns that come with this title. First of all, will I even step foot on the red carpet? Many times, the Plus Ones get shuffled off to a side-door, while the actors and executives, and anyone else who actually worked on the movie, walk the carpet. However, one must always be prepared. And that means I need to find something to wear. I’m hoping you can help!
I just headed to Denver to find the “perfect dress” that I can actually afford, and now I’m taking you shopping with me, virtually. I used my phone to take pictures of the different choices, and I’ve described them, along with the price, below.
This bronze Nicole Miller dress is $430. I don’t know if it’s worth it to eat Ramen for the rest of the year just for this dress. Your thoughts?
This green David Meister is kind of different, but I don’t know if it’s jazzy enough for a premiere. And, oh, yeah, it’s $420! Worth the cost of no lattes for a year?
This hot pink one, which looks red in the picture, was on sale at Neiman Marcus for $190 (I forgot which label). There's a shiny brooch on the shoulder that you can almost see in the photo. The price is a little better (I’m going to have to just bite the bullet and swipe a credit card for this premiere, I think), and maybe I can slink it up with some sparkly shoes and bracelets. What do you think?
This white Betsy & Adam dress is the most reasonably priced at $160. Do you think white would work for a premiere? Also, is this kind of neckline “in” right now?
Those are the options – let me know what you think! Hopefully I’ll get photographed once I’m there so I can prove I actually went, and show off what dress you all picked for me!
Thanks for your help, everyone! I’ll post again when I’ve gotten enough feedback to decide. And of course I’ll blog about the event once I’m back to tell you what it was like to be a Plus One.
UPDATE: Even though most of the blog comments were rooting for the write, a lot of people on Facebook and off-line voted for the green... which made the decision that much harder. Check out this link to see which one I picked:
