Thanks to Charlotte of Colorado Springs who told us about this scam. She says she was awakened around 5:45 this morning by a friendly voice from Jamaica.
She was told she had won a brand new 2010 Mercedes Benz. Can someone tell the crooks it's 2011?
Charlotte says the caller who used the name, Jan Moore claimed he was with Publishers Clearing House. All he asked her to do was run to Western Union and wire $260 to Sheldon Sterling in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Problem is... Publishers Clearing House never calls winners to notify them... and they never ask for money to be wired to them.
Charlotte asked where Jan was calling from and he told her West Nevada Street in Colorado Springs. Jan should have checked Google maps... we have a North and a South Nevada Avenue... but not a West Nevada Street.
Besides caller i.d. showed (876) 369-4053 is in Jamaica... not here in town.
Thankfully, Charlotte knew better and told Jan to stop calling her.
She wouldn't mind winning a new car in a legitimate contest... but one that's a 2011 model.
