Veterinarians from Northwest Animal Hospital took your questions about pet health and safety. The one issue that kept coming up... dental care. In fact, they say they can't emphasize enough the importance of pet dental care. You don't want them to be in pain and they can't always let you know when they're suffering.
If you ignore dental problems, it can lead to rotten teeth, extractions, and disease later.
They also say it's important for your pets to be evaluated by a vet and stay current on their vaccinations. Rabies is a big concern in southern Colorado... where there's been a resuregence of the rabies.
The canine flu vaccine is also important if you board your dog or put them in doggie daycare. The canine flu is very contagious and can easily be passed from one dog to another.
With the holidays coming up, you'll want to keep poinsettias away from your pets. They won't die by muching on the leaves, but they can get stomach aches. Taking care of our four-legged friends now means less expense later.
