Read Summer Job Postings Carefully (Betty Sexton)

It's that time of year when a lot of young people will be looking for summer jobs. Be very careful of the postings you see on craigslist. Katelin of Colorado Springs learned that lesson the hard way.

She didn't see the warning signs then, she does now. It sounded like the perfect summer job... one she had done before. Being a nanny to a new family arriving in Colorado Springs from Ontario, Canada.

That's the first tipoff... Canada. Katelin says she texted and emailed with the crooks for two weeks. They gained her trust and told her she'd be a vaulable part of their family, taking care of their 3 year old son, Paul.

Since Katelin had nannied before, she knew parents can often make random requests. They wanted her to cash a check they were sending and send a large portion of it ($1,350) back to the landlord. Second red flag... being asked to wire a large chunk of money.

Katelin learned too late that the check was bogus and her account was now $1,700 in the red. She did some research and was able to get ahold of authorities... who are now working hard to get her money back. Keep your fingers crossed!

She's lucky the money was eventually wired to Wisconsin... and not out of the country. She may have hope.

Remember... whenever you see a great job offering terrific money, wonderful hours, and a lot of perks... check it out.

If anything seems a little odd, do more research. If you want my help, give me a call at the station at (719) 578-0000.

Better to feel foolish than have your bank account emptied.

I'll be talking to Katelin next week for a Call for Action story...  more details then.
