I wanted to respond to the comments about our recent Call for Action Investigation. We were asked to check out the illegal activities taking place behind Palmer High School during school hours.
Call for Action is an international non-profit with a chapter at KKTV. It exists to help resolve consumer issues. Neighbors behind Palmer came to us, asking for help. We did not seek them out.
They were frustrated and believed enough wasn't being done to address the problems of drug dealing, theft, and littering. They were afraid of retaliation. In fact, one told me when he asked students to pick up their trash, he later found piles of garbage had been dumped on his vehicle.
These people LIVE here, they don't arrive at 7 am and leave at 3 pm.
We called together school officials and police to get their side of the story. The CSPD told us we caught young people committing crimes and they want to immediately start community policing measures to put an end to the illegal behavior.
We know Palmer has a proud history and mentioned that in our story. You would think those who are angry would want to help the neighbors ... being a part of the solution, not adding to their sense of frustration and alienation.
I have heard from a number of folks thanking us for exposing these problems... including parents of some Palmer students. Hopefully all involved can work together to make residents in the area feel safe again in their own homes. We welcome your comments.
