Nothing like seeing the words "I.R.S." and "refund" to get your attention. But don't fall for this trap... it stinks to high heaven!
Thanks to Craig Ver Helst. He smelled a rat and alerted me right away.
Get this... cyber crooks are sending out emails telling you that you've overpaid and are due a government refund of more than $500. How nice... that it comes right before the holidays!
The email says an upgrade of computer systems and a review of their records show you've been paying too much to Uncle Sam for the past seven years! All you have to do is click on "submit" and you'll be getting a refund soon.
Craig says he has good internet security and his system warned him not to click on the link. He says when he did... he was redirected to a porn site.
Bottom line... the I.R.S. will never send you an email and ask you to respond. It will mail you a letter and ask you to call its toll free number.
Thanks again to Craig for letting me know about this... so I could tell you.
Remember, if you get an email, letter, or phone call that seems suspicious... let me know about it.
We're all in this together... keeping each other cyber safe!
