The next time a crook calls and tries to scare you into wiring him money, grab a whistle!
I just got a call from a Colorado Springs woman who is tired of getting four phone calls a day from crooks.
She says they first impersonated the Social Security Administration and now the Internal Revenue Service.
She told me the men on the other end have foreign accents, but use American names like Frank Johnson and Mike Harris.
The scam artists say they are "freezing her account" and have "red-flagged" it.
Their goal is to convince her to wire them $150. She knows it's a scam and tells them to get lost, but they keep calling.
She doesn't want to have the calls blocked because they're continually spoofing different numbers, so I suggested a tactic that a viewer once shared with me.
Keep a whistle by the phone and if they keep calling, blow the whistle right into the receiver. It might get them to stop and will help blow off steam.
Don't let these guys get under your skin and into your wallet. If you get persistent, annoying scam phone calls be sure to let us know and we'll be happy to share those with others.
