Don't Leave your Computer Tabs Napping (Betty Sexton)

I've warned you about phishing schemes... suspicious emails that ask you to head to other sites. Now the latest scam attacks your tabs that you leave open on your computer. You could say they're napping... waiting to be tabnapped.

I've warned you about phishing schemes... suspicious emails that ask you to head to other sites.  Now the latest scam attacks your tabs that you leave open on your computer.  You could say they're napping... waiting to be tabnapped.

I learned about this from a Kansas City colleague who retired from the FBI. Jeff Lanza worked 20 years in law enforcement and now travels the country putting on risk management seminars.

He tells me crooks actually can see the tabs you have open and if they're sitting there napping, they pounce. They hijack it, input their information, and you never know it. So, when you go back to that napping tab and click on it, you're actually taken to the crook's web site, not the one you opened.

Bottom line, be careful going to your bank web site or any other where you feel comfortable giving personal information, including your credit card.

Lanza says the best advice... don't leave tabs open. He suggests opening a new browser window. Another suggestion... always check the URL. If the URL is wrong... you know you're not on a protected site, but have been tabnapped to another.

Don't let a clever crook catch you napping!
