We've been getting complaints from viewers about scammers going door-to-door selling magazine subscriptions.  Now the Colorado Attorney General is warning all residents about such fraudulent sales.

Attorney General John Suthers says his office has seen a sharp increase in the number of these complaints.  He says never buy something or sign a contract based solely on a doorstep sales pitch ... and that's good advice.

It seems these crooks are going door-to-door not only in Colorado Springs, but in Denver and Boulder, too.

They're offering magazine subscriptions at a discount, but the magazines may not even exist.  They're reportedly telling residents that subscription sales are paying for their education, their medical expenses, or helping a family member in need.

Just remember know who you're dealing with and verify the information.  Don't be afraid to get contact information from the sales person on your doorstep.

You can also verify company information by going to the Better Business Bureau website or the Colorado Secretary of State's webstate.

Get sales information in writing and review the deal.  Don't accept verbal promises.

If you do decide to do business with someone door-to-door, write a check and make it payable to the company, not the salesman.
