My co-anchor Don Ward received one of the craziest email scams!  This one plays off of soccer fans.  Don was told he had won $1million in the South Africa 2010 World Cup Awareness Grant.  Not a sweepstakes or a lottery... but an awareness grant.  Guess the crooks will say anything to get your attention.  You're supposed to call a South African phone number listed in the email... but who wants to make that call?  Well, I found someone who actually followed up on this and here were his instructions:  Come to South Africa to collect your winnings... yeah, right!

The crooks say you have to show up in seven days, shake the hand of Nelson Mandela, and then you'll be given the $1million in U.S. currency.  Of course, your're not supposed to tell anyone or it could slow down the process.

It's important to note, the last thing you want to do is actually travel to this part of the world and meet with these guys face-to-face.  Several Americans have been kidnapped and held for ransom.  A few have died.  In fact, statistics show from 1994 to 1997 scammers murdered a total of 15 people.  Bottom line, don't let your desire for cash steer you in the wrong direction.
