Federal investigators plan to look into the distribution of controlled substances at the University of Colorado dental school.

The Drug Enforcement Agency will investigate the school's practice of allowing unlicensed residents to write prescriptions using faculty members' credentials.

The Denver Post discoverd that residents could procure sedation drugs without faculty members being present.

Federal law requires that medical professionals have a relationship with a patient to administer sedation drugs or write a prescription for controlled substances. They also must maintain registration with the DEA.
