What's Not In The Water? The Fluoride Debate
Colorado Springs It's been called one of the greatest public health achievements of the 20th century. That's what the Centers For Disease Control said about communities that add fluoride to the water. Colorado Springs is not one of them and children seem to be at the center of a debate on whether adding fluoride to our tap water is risky or not. Fluoride causes Hashimoto's autoimmune thyroiditis, a common form of hypothyroidism which I was diagnosed with in 2007. Now that I avoid fluoridated water and all products containing it, I have normal thyroid activity and I take no medication. Fluoride was used to lower the metabolism for people suffering from hyperthyroidism (over active thyroid) in 1930’s so it is not surprising that it impairs thyroid function in normal healthy individuals. On November 9th, 2006, based on a National Research Council report the ADA warned that fluoridated water should not be mixed into concentrated formula or foods intended for babies one year and younger in order to avoid moderate dental fluorosis. On December 15, 2006, the Centers for Disease Control stated that using fluoridated water for infant formula may influence a child’s risk for developing enamel fluorosis. According to the CDC, 32% of American children have dental fluorosis, a significant increase from 23% in the 1980s. The Academy of General Dentistry has cautioned parents to avoid fluoridated water when making infant foods. The American Academy of Pediatrics has advised that fluoride not be given to infants 6 months and younger . Fluoridated water (1 ppm) has 250 times more fluoride than occurs naturally in human breast milk (.004pm) Watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9RXfOuylWo
