House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says new health care legislation will make affordable, quality health care available to nearly all Americans and represents a historic step.
Pelosi made the remarks on the West Front of the Capitol surrounded by Democratic lawmakers.
The retooled health overhaul bill she presented Thursday delivers on many of President Barack Obama's goals for reshaping the U.S. health care system. It represents months of negotiations to bridge differences between liberal and moderate Democrats.
The bill would extend coverage to 36 million more Americans, bar insurance companies from denying coverage based on health history and require employers to offer coverage to their workers. Anti-abortion protesters briefly disrupted Pelosi's remarks.

If only we could get people in congress that were more concerned with the welfare of the people than with making their mark in history. No politician truely has the public in mind. Only "How can I get elected/re-elected and make people remember me?"
why and what do a few people (REID?PELOSI?) want to hide from the American people , let everyone read it, 2000 pages, give US TAX PAYERS 4-6 months to read and analyze, discuss, debate and question , and if satisfied with those, LET IT BE TRUE DEMOCRACY (NOT IN NAME BUT IN ACTION) AND LET US AMERICANS VOTE ON IT would they let us do that? they should have let the AMERICAN TAX PAYERS BE INVOLVED IN THE DECISION BY VOTING OF THE TARP 1 AND TARP 2 AND THE STIMULUS , THE CASH FOR CLUNKERS, THE TRILLIONS TO FANNIE FREDDIE AND THE HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS TO FORECLOSURE RESCUE.
Lets lets take the dirty politics of vote grabbing and pandering out of healthcare, what they are proposing is not healthcare but another tax on all americans. yes healthcare is good to have but not this sham bill being stuffed won out throats if they (Reid/Pelosi) and other politicians truly care about Americans health care and Americans being healthier lets tie it first with keep our waters, air and land clean and safe from pollutants and contaminants, keep our foods safe then get a panel of experts from across the health care industry from Doctors, Nurses, hospital managers, administrators , other healt care providers, workers, finance companies, health insurance experts, insurance industry execs, lawyers (insurance/medical malpractice and so on) accountants and any other experts who can give their input free and clear of politics. Let these people discuss , negotiate and make several proposals and then let the AMERICAN PEOPLE VOTE ON IT. give the people time to read and see what it is!!
