Some Democrats are calling Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid's move to add a public option to health care reform bold and gutsy.
But it's moderate Democrats who could sink the proposed overhaul by voting against it, and they're not saying much. Reid, however, is dangling an opt-out provision into the final bill in a bid to win their support.
For his part, Reid says the public option is the best -- and fairest -- way to improve the current system.
Republicans like Texas Sen. John Cornyn don't see it that way. Cornyn warns that government competition would drive private companies out of the insurance business.
Reid's move is also one that could turn away the main Republican who's backed the Democrats on health care. Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe says she's disappointed with Reid's decision.

"BOLD"&"GUTSY" all empty words and empty rhetoric from the same people who have for now 10 months mislead the country on the bailouts,thefannie/freddie trillion dollars home saving plans, cash for clunkers, the so called jobs increases, green jobs, and multiple tax payers dollars being shoved to save homes from foreclosures above the 1 trillion$ to fannie/freddie and the big stimulus but at the end all the reports come out and say it didnt work as expected , so on so forth, more losses all around .. so why dont these people take more time, form a national committee of doctors, nurses, health care managers, experts and economists, bankers and insurance groups and let them work on the proposals that is not rhetoric and populist but actual healthcare reform and then put that on the ballot for americans to vote on!! get your dirty corrupt paws off healthcare and let the people decide after a bill that is made by input of experts from across the industry rather than few vote grabbing panderers
