The H1N1 vaccine will be here in southern Colorado by the end of the week, according to health officials. But, it's coming in small doses, so many will have to wait for it.

Labs are squeezing out as much of the H1N1 vaccine as quick as possible. "The flu mist for the H1N1 is becoming available, and we'll be receiving a shipment of that this week," said Kandi Buckland, the Director for the El Paso County Health Department.

El Paso County is expecting about 6,000 of the misters. "We're going to target that very limited supply to health care workers," said Buckland. If you're a health care worker, your office will notify you if you are eligible for the first round of vaccines.

Each week the local health departments will get more shipments, including both the mist and the shot vaccine. After health care workers get the vaccine, it will be made available to vulnerable or high risk people. This will include pregnant women, kids and caregivers for children 6 months and younger.

In the meantime, the spokesperson for Penrose-St. Francis Health Centers tells 11 News her offices are putting restrictions on hospital visitors. "These restrictions are no ill visitors,” said Stacey Knott. “If you have a runny nose, a cough, you're sneezing, please do not come and visit."

Most other hospitals in Southern Colorado are also adding the restrictions, which include keeping children 12 and under from visiting.

The mist form of the vaccine will only be given to people 49 and under.

Starting Wednesday, October 7th the Pueblo Health Department will open a Flu Hot line. It will be open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. The number for the hot line is (719) 583-4440.
