You know how it works when kids are young, they'd rather play than wash their hands. But it's good to remind your kids to keep their hands clean. It could keep them from getting hand, foot and mouth disease.
Dr. Michael Halenkamp with Colorado Springs Health Partners says that's what's going around the Briargate area... in kindergarten-aged kids and younger.
Hand, foot and mouth may sound like hoof-and-mouth disease, which you find in animals. But they are not linked.
Hand, foot and mouth is a viral illness that causes blisters on the hands, feet and in the mouth.
Your child may also have a fever, decreased appetite and sore throat. And this is spread easily between children, especially through coughing and sneezing.
There is no specific treatment… just good hygiene to keep the infection from spreading.
