WASHINGTON (AP) -- There's word of a new effort aimed at crafting a bipartisan health care overhaul bill in the Senate.

Democratic sources say Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus is sending around a plan that would impose a fee on insurance companies to help cover costs.

Baucus is part of a six-member bipartisan group working on the issue. The panel is set to meet tomorrow, as Congress returns from its August recess.

The Baucus plan involves health insurance exchanges, with information on different plans and prices. That would help small groups and individuals buy policies at lower rates.

The proposal isn't believed to be the final product. Finance Committee members are being encouraged to suggest certain changes.

It's unclear if the fee would win support of two key Republicans. But Wyoming Republican Mike Enzi says he's reviewing the proposal to make sure it keeps a handle on costs, among other things.
