Lewis Palmer School District 38 confirms to 11 News they have had at least five self-reported cases of the H1N1 swine flu in students.

District officials say the students attend Lewis Palmer High School, Palmer Ridge High School and some of the elementary schools.

District 38 officials say there is no cause for concern for parents of healthy students because the sicknesses aren't in a concentrated area, such as one certain school.

Health officials with the El Paso County Health Department say it was just a matter of time until the H1N1 virus spread quickly though local schools.

"We're in a pandemic. This is what we expected to see and quite honestly, we'll continue to see an increase in illnesses," said Kandi Buckland, El Paso County Public Health Director.

D-38 says they are handling the situation like any other kind of flu or sickness. They remind parents to keep their kids home from school if they're sick.
