Reported cases of H1N1 keep showing up, as expected, in our community schools. Many of the reports are still under investigation, but they draw a sharp focus on the progress of the vaccine, which is still in development.

Once the vaccine is ready, finding it will likely require following doctor's orders.

Finding the H1N1 virus this season won't be the problem, according to national health experts.

"You're going to find it everywhere. You'll find it on door knobs, you'll find it on telephones,” said Doctor Peter Gross, an Infectious Disease Expert.

Getting vaccinated before catching the virus may be the hard part.

"When it does come it will come in small allotments to be given over time," said Angela Camiolo an Infection Prevention Specialist with Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.

Camiolo said she expects the vaccine will arrive in mid-October. First on the list to get the shots will be those who work closely with patients. Expectant mothers come close behind.

"Anyone six months to 24 years of age is at highest risk for H1N1," Camiolo said.

The El Paso County Department of Health and Environment told 11 News Tuesday, the process to distribute the available vaccine to doctors’ offices and other locations is still under review.

"We don't want anyone to panic we will follow the state guidelines on the distribution," Camiolo said.

Hospital representatives said stay in close touch with your doctor for guidance as to where to get the vaccine once it is ready.

Experts also remind everyone to remember to get their regular flu shots for the season, which in some cases, are already available.

In addition to five confirmed cases from Pueblo schools, District 11 and District 3 are still checking into reports of H1N1. Both districts continue to encourage standard hygiene practices to prevent sickness from spreading.
