A new Massachusetts law aimed at ending minor marijuana arrests may also apply to other drugs, like hashish.
The Associated Press has obtained the new state rules. The guidelines end criminal penalties for possession of an ounce or less of THC, the primary psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.
But THC is also in hashish or hash oil, so the new rules may apply to possession of those as well.
Voters passed a referendum in November doing away with criminal penalties for having up to ounce of pot. Instead, violators will face a $100 fine and forfeiture of the drug.
Courts are expected to eventually settle questions on the law's scope.
