Six major retailers are pulling Simplicity bassinets from their shelves because they've been linked to the deaths of two babies.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says Wal-Mart, Toys "R" Us, Kmart, Big Lots, Target, and J.C. Penney have recalled Simplicity's "close-sleeper/bedside sleeper" because the products pose a strangulation hazard.

Last week, a 6-month-old Kansas girl was strangled when she became entrapped between the bassinet's metal bars. And last September, a 4-month-old Missouri girl died from the same cause.

The government says SFCA, the company that bought Simplicity's assets, has refused to recall the products.
