As you enjoy your holiday hamburger, with or without the tomato, consumer groups say the still unsolved salmonella outbreak is further proof the Food and Drug Administration needs to be more pro-active.

Chris Waldrop of the Consumer Federation of America's Food Policy Institute says the federal agency needs to implement a system to track produce from the farm where it's grown, all the way to your table. He says says it wouldn't involve reinventing the wheel because the technology already exists.

The salmonella investigation started with tomatoes. But the goverment is also looking at other produce in an effort to find the cause of the outbreak, which has sickened more than 900 people in 40 states.

FDA is another non-functioning government bloat. When proven medication in Europe and Asia have been utilized for decades are still on the experimental list in the US due FDA non-moving process and resulting non-insurance coverage because of it - what a waste.
