Pueblo health officials are reporting two adult cases of salmonella. They say it's the same strain that's sickened hundreds across the U.S.

Health officials say a man and a woman came in contact with the bacteria sometime in the past two weeks.

"After further testing it was determined that they had the Saintpaul strain and that’s the strain that has been linked to the outbreak across the nation," said Jody Carrillo, Director of Disease Prevention at the Pueblo County Health Department.

The two people infected in Pueblo are at home recovering, neither had to be hospitalized.

Symptoms of salmonella include fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea all lasting for over 72 hours.

In all, the Centers for Disease Control now reports more than 750 people in 36 states have been infected with the rare strain. That includes one in El Paso County and two in Otero County.

The outbreak was originally linked with certain raw tomatoes, but investigators still have not been able to track down the exact source of the contamination.

I had some cucumbers that tasted bitter. The next few days I could not get out of the bathroom. I have had food poisoning before and this was seemed about the same.
