Opponents of a proposal defining a fertilized human egg as a person warned Tuesday that it could have unintended consequences, barring doctors from treating women with cancer and banning some birth control.

The proposed ballot issue was introduced by a coalition of anti-abortion activists called Colorado for Equal Rights.

The group has until May 13th to gather the 76,000 signatures needed to get on the November ballot.

Opponents have formed a coalition called Protect Families Protect Choices.

They say the amendment could establish a legal basis for the government to investigate a woman and her doctor for a miscarriage, medical care for high-risk pregnancies that fail or for any action that could unintentionally harm a fetus.

Supporters did not return phone calls seeking comment.

These "unintended consequences" are "what-if's" that the pro-abortion movement speculate on because they want to continue to have the freedom to abort babies, and men can abuse their girlfriend causing miscarriages. The amendment is to PROTECT women from people who don't want them to have their babies. I think the amendment if great. Life is life, and intentional destruction of it should have consequences.

I truly hope this dosen't pass. The 'unintended consequences' stated in the story would be awful. I also enjoy my privacy and wouldn't want the government poking thier noses in what I decide to do with MY body, its MINE dammit! Some birth control 'could be banned'? WTF? Reading this truley upsets me. I don't like the idea of abortions but in no way am I against it. Let women do as they feel nessesary, unless they are using abortions as their only method of birth control of course. Colorado for Equal Rights, leave it alone. Let people live how they deem fit. Don't take my rights away.

It should always be a womans choice on what she does with her body, with child or not!!!!
